Tippet Rings are also useful in extending the life of a tapered leader. Attach a tippet ring to the end of a new leader with a clinch knot.  Attach your tippet to the tippet ring with a clinch knot. When your tippet is used up, add more tippet by removing the remainder of the old tippet from the ring.  Attaching a fresh piece. Now you never cut into your tapered leader to attach new lengths of tippet.Â
